About Wadi Rum
Wadi Rum is a protected desert wilderness in southern Jordan, stretching across a dramatic valley cut into sandstone and granite rock. The landscape is dominated by towering cliffs, natural arches, narrow gorges, and vast expanses of red sand that shift colour with the changing light. Bedouin communities have inhabited this region for centuries, and many still live in the area, maintaining traditional ways of life alongside tourism. Visitors staying here find themselves surrounded by one of the most striking desert environments in the Middle East, with opportunities to explore by foot, camel, or vehicle. The area sits relatively close to Jordan's border with Saudi Arabia and lies a short drive from the coastal city of Aqaba and the ancient Nabataean city of Petra. The night skies are exceptionally dark, making stargazing a notable draw. Rock inscriptions and archaeological remains scattered throughout the area testify to human presence dating back thousands of years.
