About Bidiya
Bidiya is a small town in northeastern Oman, located in the Ash Sharqiyah North Governorate between the coastal city of Sur and the Wahiba Sands. The settlement sits at the edge of one of Oman's most famous desert regions, making it a common stopping point for travellers heading into the dunes. The surrounding landscape blends rocky desert plains with vast sand seas that stretch toward the interior. Visitors staying in Bidiya find themselves near traditional Bedouin camps where camel treks and desert excursions depart. The town itself has a modest commercial centre with shops and eateries serving local residents and passing travellers. Nearby, the village of Al Mintirib offers additional access to the desert, while the coast at Ras al Jinz, known for its turtle nesting beach, lies within driving distance to the east. The area retains a distinctly Omani character, with fewer large developments than the country's major cities.
