Al Habala, meaning "the rope" in Arabic, is a historic "hanging village" dramatically perched on a cliff face in Saudi Arabia's Asir Region. Originally inhabited by the Khatani tribe, known as the "flower men" for their floral adornments, the village's extreme inaccessibility, achieved through rope ladders, served as a refuge from invaders. Today, visitors can reach Al Habala via a cable car, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding valleys and dramatic rock formations. The traditional stone houses, built over 370 years ago, have been adapted for tourism, with some now serving as cafes and shops. While many original inhabitants relocated to a modern village below, some return during summer months to perform traditional dances. The area also features unique rock pillars and offers a glimpse into Saudi Arabia's past, blending natural beauty with rich cultural heritage.
