About Shaqra‘

Shaqra‘ is a small settlement in northern Qatar, located on the eastern coast of the Al Shamal municipality. It sits along the shoreline of the Arabian Gulf, roughly midway between the historic town of Al Zubarah to the northwest and the city of Al Khor to the southeast. The area around Shaqra‘ is characterised by low-lying desert terrain and sparse coastal vegetation, with the sea providing a moderating influence on the arid climate. Travellers staying in this part of Qatar would be near several significant cultural and natural sites. The Al Zubarah Archaeological Site, a UNESCO World Heritage property featuring the remains of a prosperous pearl trading town, lies within easy reach to the northwest. To the south, the Al Thakira Mangroves offer opportunities to observe coastal ecosystems and birdlife. The broader Al Shamal region also contains traditional fishing villages, historic forts, and beaches that remain relatively undeveloped compared to other parts of the Qatari coast.
