HotelAbout Zekreet
Zekreet is a small coastal settlement on the western edge of the Qatari peninsula, overlooking the waters of the Gulf. The area sits within a landscape of limestone escarpments and rocky desert terrain that extends toward the sea. Travellers staying here find themselves near the Zekreet Fort, a historic structure built from coral rock and limestone that once guarded this isolated stretch of coastline. The surrounding region includes the Brouq Nature Reserve, where oryx and other native wildlife roam across protected desert plains. Nearby, the desert meets the Gulf at quiet beaches with fossilised dunes along the shoreline. The area also contains a collection of unusual mushroom-shaped rock formations created by wind erosion over time. Richard Serra's massive steel sculpture, East-West/West-East, stands in the desert interior, visible from some distance across the flat landscape. The settlement lies roughly midway along the western coast, between the industrial city to the north and the capital's urban sprawl to the east.
