About Al Khawd

Al Khawd is a small coastal town in northeastern Oman, sitting on the Gulf of Oman between the larger cities of Sohar and Muscat. The town lies along the main coastal highway that connects these urban centres, making it a quiet stopping point on the route through the Batinah region. Travellers staying here find themselves near sandy beaches that stretch along the coastline, with the waters of the gulf visible from much of the town. The surrounding area is characterised by date palm plantations and agricultural land that extends toward the foothills of the Western Hajar Mountains inland. Nearby Sohar offers a port, a fort, and commercial facilities, while the drive south toward Muscat passes through several other coastal settlements. The town's position on the flat coastal plain gives it a warm, humid climate typical of Oman's northern shoreline, with the mountains providing a dramatic backdrop to the west.
